3.4. Connectivity Summary

This Implementation Guide defines the content, rendering, validation, population, extraction, and narrative generation requirements for Ontario Health eForms (FHIR Questionnaire/QuestionnaireResponse) and does not prescribe a specific deployment topology or workflow.

Note: Connectivity details (e.g., where Questionnaires are hosted, how they are discovered, and how QuestionnaireResponses are submitted or exchanged) are expected to be defined by use-case specific Ontario Health Implementation Guides or by implementation/onboarding documentation.

3.4.1. Connectivity overview

Implementations that access Ontario Health-hosted FHIR services will typically connect using Ontario Health’s standard provincial integration and security patterns. Where applicable, client systems may connect through the ONE Access Gateway to access provincial FHIR-based interfaces.

Connectivity through such a gateway commonly involves:

  • OAuth2 / OpenID Connect for authorization and authentication
  • Mutual TLS / PKI certificates (e.g., ONE ID PKI) for client identity
  • Standard FHIR RESTful APIs with payloads in FHIR JSON (and/or FHIR XML where supported)

This IG does not define specific endpoint URLs, onboarding steps, or environment details. Those details are provided through the relevant program/channel documentation.

3.4.2. Reference documentation
